The Sioux Falls Humane Society has put a pause on all dog adoptions until further notice.

Monday morning, the Sioux Falls Humane Society posted the following on their Facebook page…

“Out of an abundance of caution, the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society has made the decision to temporarily pause all dog adoptions and dog surrenders until further notice.

Over the weekend, one of our dogs began showing signs of illness. Our team acted quickly, providing close monitoring and immediate veterinary care at an emergency clinic.

Additional testing is underway, and we are currently awaiting results to better understand the cause.

While we wait, we are taking proactive steps to ensure the health and safety of all animals in our care.

This includes conducting an extra deep cleaning throughout our facility and temporarily suspending dog adoptions and surrenders until we can ensure the continued wellness of our dog population.

Please note that cat and small animal adoptions will continue as usual.

As an organization, our mission is to be a safe haven and human voice for all animals in need.

Taking this brief pause is part of our commitment to protecting the health and well-being of every animal in our care.

We deeply appreciate your understanding, patience, and ongoing support as we navigate this situation with the care and caution our animals deserve.”
