It’s Official: The First South Dakota College Allows Pets in Dorms
If you ever wanted to bring your dog or cat with you to college, you're in luck! A South Dakota college is now welcoming pets on campus.
For the first time, Northern State University in Aberdeen, South Dakota will allow students to have pets in some dorms. Who wouldn't love to come home to a friendly face after difficult tests or writing a complicated school paper?

The new student program at Northern State University is still very new. Officials at Northern State University recognize that some students have a harder period adjusting to college life. Bringing in emotional support animals will be a welcomed change for students at Northern State University. Right now, students with emotional support animals are allowed to stay at McArthur-Welsh Hall on campus.
According to our news partners at Dakota News Now, the emotional support animal program took about six months to get Northern State University approved for pets on campus. It was worth the time and effort. Students love having a little bit of home on campus. Student Anna Batiem tells Dakota News Now she truly appreciates her school for allowing pets. She believes Northern State University's program will open the doors for other colleges across the state.
“I think it’s a really unique thing that Northern has done to their campus and I think it really makes it a desirable place to go to school. And I think that if other universities follow suit, I really do believe it just brings more life to the campus."
Marty Sabolo of Northern State University says the school really listened to the needs of the students. Like current students, Marty hopes this attracts future Wolves to come to Aberdeen. You can learn more here.
