PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard is asking that flags are flown at half-mast Friday in observance of the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

Nearly a decade and a half after hijacked planes hit the World Trade Center's twin towers, the Pentagon and a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, the anniversary continues to be marked with observances around the country.

Daugaard has asked that residents of the state lower their flags in honor of those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001,
