George Strait Golf Tournament Raises Record Amount for Wounded Military Personnel
George Strait's fourth annual Vaqueros del Mar Invitational Golf Tournament and Auction raised a record $550,000 to benefit wounded military personnel.
Strait and Texas businessman Tom Cusick hosted the event, which took place at Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort & Spa in Boerne, Texas, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 25 -26. The event benefits Feherty's Troops First Foundation, which provides assistance to military members who have been wounded serving in Iraq or Afghanistan.
Strait and Cusick first held the event in 2011. Over the course of four years, they have raised a total of $1.1 million for their cause.
This year's event included a Western Gala and live auction, along with music from Josh Grinder Band, Reckless Kelly, Asleep at the Wheel, Jamey Johnson, Dean Dillon and Keith Gattis. Strait wrapped things up on Sunday evening with a rare live performance, since he retired from active touring in June at the end of his farewell the Cowboy Rides Away Tour.
