Day one of the VPU Tourism virtual road trip took us north to Brookings to visit Susanne Hegg at the Children's Museum of South Dakota. The museum is a converted 1930's elementary school in the heart of downtown Brookings one block south of Highway 14.

As the name states, this is a museum for and about children from infants to 12, with the understanding and acceptance that adults love to be kids sometimes, too.

Exhibits are hands-on and interactive. Since this is a former school, the outside playground area is still a playground but with interesting exhibits to play on, in, and under.

Susanne Hegg clearly loves her job. She had a tough time deciding her favorite exhibit stating, "it would be like telling which one of my children is my favorite."

The Children's Museum of South Dakota is open Tuesday-Sunday. Ten to five, Tuesday-Saturday, and noon to five on Sunday. Admission is only $6. !!!

Children are asked to keep an eye on their parents and grandparents so they don't get lost. It usually takes anywhere from one to five kids to keep track of an adult. It's a rule.

The webpage to pay a virtual visit to get a feel for the real thing is:

Because of Susanne's enthusiasm, I will take a day trip to Brookings, and I don't even have young children or grandchildren.

Day one of the VPU tourism trip was a success.

Day two will take us to Vermillion. They has a tourist attraction or two, besides the Dome.
