In my career in show biz, you always try to look for funny stories to entertain both yourself and that person who is listening. Many times they come from someone’s misfortune.

Over the years, these segments have taken the form of stuff that I hope never is repeated by yours truly. However, being of a certain age and have been on the wrong end of dumb stuff occasionally this needs to be something to be used as a warning.

Call it “Dan, Don’t Do” because if I start to trend in a direction, I would hope someone or even myself would put me back on the straight and narrow way.

For example, in a story from the Austin American Statesman, a man was in court pleading his case to have a shorter prison sentence. Number one, for Dan: Don’t drink and drive. Number two: Dan, don’t get caught four times trying to drink and drive. Number three: Dan, don’t try to argue that being an alcoholic and having a higher booze tolerance is an excuse to not pay your debt to society. Don’t do it, Dan.

Live your life, make your mistakes and learn from them. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7.
