A fewer number of corn acres have reached dented stage than the five-year average according to a report released by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

With 51 percent of total corn acres planted by August 27, maturity in progressing to dent reached only 44 percent.

That's seven percentage points short of the five-year average. Additionally, 62 percent of all corn acres in the top 18 corn-planted states in 2016 remained in good or excellent condition.

That reading comes in 13 percentage points lower than last year at this time.

Overall, corn progress is roughly on track. See the entire USDA report released.
