Voters in the West Central School District have decided to turn a Sioux Falls housing development over to the Sioux Falls School District.

Students living in Cherry Lake Reserve on the western edge of Sioux Falls will now attend schools in Sioux Falls. Before Tuesday's vote, the subdivision was in the West Central School District.

The two school boards reached a tax-sharing agreement last year, but some community members didn't like it and started a petition that sparked Tuesday's vote.

584 people voted yes, agreeing with the school board's decision. 400 voted no. Voter turnout was 22 percent.

The unofficial numbers break down like this: Humboldt had 100 yes votes and 85 no votes. Hartford had 323 yes votes and 208 no votes. Wall Lake had 161 yes votes and 107 no votes.
