Ceiling Collapses at First Avenue Nightclub in Minneapolis
A part of the ceiling from the house that Prince helped build collapsed on Wednesday night.
Building inspectors are busy looking into the reasons why a 30-by-30 foot section fell around 10:15 PM at the landmark First Avenue nightclub on Wednesday, August 12, 2015 while the Canadian rock band Theory of a Deadman was performing.
Wow! They literally brought the house down.
The show stopped as everyone ran for the exits.
City spokesman Matt Lindstrom says inspectors are trying to determine the cause. According to Lindstrom, once the necessary repairs are made, the nightclub will reopen.
The damage area is limited to part of an old dropped ceiling. The plan is to tear out the rest of it, replace the damaged section then reopen according to First Avenue General Manager Nathan Kranz.
Three people were treated at Hennepin County Medical Center resulting from injuries sustained during the collapse. At last check they were in satisfactory condition.
The legendary nightclub has hosted many prominent performers throughout the years. Including Prince, who filmed his 1984 movie "Purple Rain" there.
