Augustana University Students Travel to India
When I heard that my niece, Caryn Brakke, was going to be attending Augustana University I was pretty pumped. I knew it would be a great fit for her. Not too far away from her home town of Pierre, South Dakota yet far enough away to feel like you were out of the house.
Then I heard she was planning on a trip to India. I thought to myself some kids struggle with moving out of the house. Heck, she will be in another country by the end of the year.
I've been following some of her travels on Facebook and asked if she would be willing to share some photos and she said yes. In a text from the other side of the world I found out she was in Rishikesh, India. Thanks to Google maps, I see it's northeast of New Delhi. A closer look shows she's just northwest of Nepal. Color me jealous.
She mentioned in the text:
The area is absolutely unbelievable. Rishikesh is in the foothills of the Himalayas and everywhere you look there is a beautiful mountain view. There are little shops everywhere you look and the people I have had conversations with are so friendly.
We are here on the Interim (j-term or January term) class called Dharma: Life, Religion and Music in Contemporary India.
She also shared some photos from the area. As I mentioned earlier I'm jealous, but also thrilled that she is getting to have an experience like this. Awesome to see her settling in to college life and all of the adventures that being a Viking bring.
Thanks Caryn, for sharing some of the photos from the other side of the earth with us this morning. Or was it afternoon, or tomorrow? I'll have to Google that up and find out.
