News broke on Saturday morning (July 18th) that businessman and philanthropist T. Denny Sanford passed away at the age of 90.

It's no secret that Denny Sanford was the richest man in the state of South Dakota, and it's evident that he decided to share his wealth with others in South Dakota and beyond.

It's reported that Sanford Health President and CEO Bill Gassen announced T. Denny Sanford's passing to employees in an email on Saturday morning. Our news partners at Dakota News Now shared an official statement from Bill Gassen on Denny Sanford's generosity that have forever transformed communities across the Sioux Empire.

“We are forever blessed that Denny chose us and our communities to make the transformational gifts that will change lives for generations. He was a driving force in modern medicine, empowering researchers and clinicians to think big and pursue bold, innovative endeavors at a pace not otherwise possible. We are able to provide care for more patients in their time of need because of his generosity.”

Many organizations have shared their condolences and words of appreciation on social media for all T. Denny Sanford has done for them over the years. These group include The Great Plains Zoo, The Summit League, Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation, and the Children's Home Shelter for Family Safety.

Aside from the organizations around the Sioux Empire, those who had long, working relationships with Denny Sanford have shared their thoughts on his passing.
