ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) — A $3 million renovation project at Aberdeen's City Hall is set to begin this winter.

The city is shifting its base of operations to the Aberdeen Recreation and Cultural Center. The American News reports contractors are about a month and a half away from completing a $500,000 renovation job to accommodate the 30 employees who work at City Hall.

City Manager Lynn Lander says about 20 of them will work temporarily out of cubicles in a 7,000-square-foot auditorium in the center.

The renovation project at City Hall will upgrade the water, sewer, electric, heating and cooling systems, as well as make modifications to office space. Lander says the building is at the point where the city either has to invest in it or abandon it.
