UPDATE: This storm has been upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning from noon Tuesday to 9:00 A.M. Wednesday.

While most families around the Sioux Falls area were enjoying a very mild Sunday, the National Weather Service was issuing a Winter Storm Watch for Sioux Falls, and much of south-central and southeastern South Dakota.

The Winter Storm Watch goes in effect on Tuesday morning and lasts through late Tuesday night.

Heavy snow is possible dishing out 4 - 7" along with winds as high as 35 mph beginning late Tuesday. Northwest Iowa and Southwestern Minnesota are also under the Winter Storm Watch.

Travelers can plan on slippery and challenging conditions and should commute with caution on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Note: This is still very early to accurately predict how severe or how much snow is expected with this system so keep an ear on local radio for updates and make sure to have a weather app or two installed on your phone with alerts activated.
