After Waiting 155 Days, Sweet Sioux Falls Dog Is Finally Home

Some pets have a longer journey trying to find their forever families. One dog spent time in different animal rescues before finally finding happiness in Sioux Falls.

It took 155 days, but Bessie finally found her "fur-ever" home thanks to the on-going efforts at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society. Yay Bessie!

Bessie is a five-year-old Terrier/Shepard mix. She's a goofy gal and wants all your attention. Another fun fact about this loving girl: Bessie is great with younger kids.

There wasn't a time when Bessie didn't have a smile on her face while being at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society. She just needed one person to see her for the sweet pup that she is. Finally, one family saw Bessie and never looked back.

Her shelter days are over. In a heartfelt Facebook post, staff at the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society shared the wonderful news that Bessie no longer has to wait for someone to notice her. She can finally keep that smile forever.

She had already spent time waiting at another rescue, wondering when it would finally be her turn.

Day after day, she greeted everyone with her happy smile, hoping each new face might be the one.
She quickly became a RDR favorite, winning hearts with her sweet personality, love for treats, and the joy she found in the little things.
We wished so badly that someone would see what we saw.

And then... they did.

Just from looking at the first of many family photos, the Sioux Empire knows that Bessie is really home for good!

Sweet Bessie!! I knew you belonged in a home surrounded by strong women! Love this for you!!

In the same Facebook post, Bessie's family shared a heartwarming update:

Thanks all of you guys for make this happen!! And for all you kind words!! I'm reading all these and I still crying.Since I saw her profile I felt a connection with her, my daughter's too. Now, she is the Queen of the house!! Lol She loves Starbucks pup cups!! And mom her coffee lol. I can't told you how much we love her!!! Thanks Sioux Falls Humane Society for everything!!

The Remaining Drive-In Theaters In South Dakota

If you were born last century...you know, in the nineteen hundreds (ugh)...you may have spent a summer evening in the car watching movies. I don't mean on your phone, I mean at the drive-in movie theater!

If you were in Sioux Falls in the 1970s and '80s you may remember seeing Jaws and Indiana Jones at The East Park or the Starlite Drive-In. Both drive-ins opened just after World War 2.

The East Park didn't make it out of the '70s, closing in 1978. The Starlite survived long enough to see the birth of home video, closing in 1985.

Drive-in movies had a bit of a resurgence during the pandemic. They were a way to go out and do something social without getting out of your car.

If you tried one during that time, or you remember the fun of a warm summer evening watching movies on that giant screen there are still places in South Dakota and around Sioux Falls you can do it.
