We all have our Christmas favorite's. It may be "Away In A Manger" or "Silent Night." It could be "I'll Be Home For Christmas" or "Winter Wonderland." Or may one of dozens and dozens of others.

And then there's "Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer."

Over the years I've heard two distinct opinion's of the Elmo & Patsy song. Either 'I love that song'!  Or 'I don't ever want to hear that song again'! There seems to be little middle ground on that song, now a classic.

So where did it come from? And who were (or are) Elmo & Patsy?

Well, it was Christmas 1979 that Grandma first got bowled over by Merry 'Ol St. Nick. And she's been getting killed every Christmas season since.

Lexington, Kentucky native Elmo Shropshire and his wife at the time Patsy recorded the seasonal ditty. With roots in bluegrass and comedy songs, this is the one that has lived, for better or worse, forever.

Elmo & Patsy divorced in 1985 and since that time Elmo has performed and re-recorded the song several times.

Oh, and by the way, Elmo is not only a very talented singer and songwriter. he's also a champion cross-country runner!

So, if you love 'Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer', let's fire it up one more time! And if you don't, well....Merry Christmas!
