What Language Is Haagen-Dazs and What Does It Mean?
I scream, you scream, and you know the rest and what it means. But there's a popular brand of ice cream that I'll bet you don't know what the name means.
The brand I'm talking about is Haagen-Dazs. It's one of the top name brands in the ice cream department of the grocery store.
In this hot weather, ice cream is a sure fire way to cool down. My son and I are ice cream fanatics.
The other day we were looking over all the choices deciding what to buy. My son asked me about some different brands, and I informed him I had never tried them.
So we bought Haagen-Dazs because we are totally fans of it. At home the question came up regarding what Haagen-Dazs stands for.
Then came the deer in the headlight look saying that I must be something in Germany. The real truth is, no it's not German, Danish, Swedish or anything else.
Please know that Haagen-Dazs has absolutely no meaning. It's a name that was completely made up by Reuben and Rose Mattus, the husband and wife who started the company.
They began making it in 1961 in New York. Reuben had been battling big companies in the ice cream business and believed that people were choosing brands strictly by the name and not quality.
He decided he needed to put a name on his that sounded big and important. So he had his wife come up with something.
