Two Teens Die After Drinking ‘Dewshine’ Mixture of Racing Fuel and Mountain Dew
A second Tennessee teen has died and two others received medical treatment after officials says they drank a mixture of Mountain Dew and racing fuel.
Darcy Jenson of the Prairie Prevention Services in Sioux Falls says parents need to talk to their kids about the ‘Dewshine’ challenge.
“I think it does offer us an opportunity as parents and grand parents to talk to youth in our lives about these incidents. We have to sure adolescents are aware of the toxicity. We need to make sure young people know what can happen if they try drinking racing fuel.”
Jenson says ‘Dewshine’ can be deadly!
“What I understand from reading the news reports---the young people who tried Dewshine were trying to get high. With that in mind, racing fuel is what many people may know as wood alcohol. Ingestion of wood alcohol can cause blindness. It was cause issues with the ability to actually even pick up things and can result in dysfunction of the spinal cord. It may cause death.”
Since the death of one of the teens, authorities say two other teens have come forward, claiming they drank a similar substance.
