This May Well Be the Greatest Sad Country Song of All Time Sung by Two of the Greatest Legends
Country music is filled with great sad songs. I mean the really sad ones, the ones that, when you hear them, no matter how hard you try, you just can't keep those eyes from getting watery, you just can't keep that tingle from making you shiver just a little bit.
Some people call them just plain old corny. But for a lot of us, what they call corny, we call...moving.
There are two songs that, every time I hear them, the first word that comes to mind is 'lonely'. The second word is 'sad'.
One song is 'Sunday Morning Coming Down', written by Hall of Famer Kris Kristofferson and sung by the Man In Black, Johnny Cash. That is one lonely man he's singing about and when you hear it, you kind of walk along the street with that guy.
The other is sung in the video below. Two legends and two of my favorite's. We all have our favorite country singer and for me it's the great Merle Haggard. When I hear the Hag, I just have to crank it up! The other legend here is the Outlaw, the late great Johnny Paycheck. And the song? 'Old Violin'.
It may be, to some, corny old country, but do me a favor. Turn it up. Now, turn it up just a little bit more. And listen. Nothing more, just listen.
And don't worry, that feeling you have going up your arm, that's called emotion.
