‘The Devil Went Down to Georgia’ By…Nickelback??
It's hard to believe that it's already been over a month since we lost a country legend, Charlie Daniels. "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" is arguably the Charlie Daniels Band's most well-known song.
Well, one rock band just released its own version of "The Devil Went Down to Georgia." Trust me when I say it's not a band you would expect to cover the iconic country tune. Quite frankly, it's probably not even a group that has been on everyone's top five lists of favorite rock groups.
Yep...it's Nickelback.
Think of this version of the "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" as a fiddle against electric guitar battle. In fact, this is the first song Nickelback has released since its 2017 album titled, "Feed the Machine."
According to an article from USA Today, this remake features all four band members of Nickelback including Chad Kroeger, Ryan Peake, Mike Kroeger, and Daniel Adair as well as Canadian guitarist Dave Martone. Nickelback's frontman, Chad Kroeger, shares in a statement that the hope for this song is to honor the late Charlie Daniels.
A "Charlie Daniels seamlessly fused country, southern rock, Western swing, blues and bluegrass into a sound and style all his own. More importantly, his ability to tell compelling and relatable stories through his songwriting has stuck with me to this day. None more so than 'The Devil Went Down to Georgia,' " states Chad Kroeger.
The article from USA Today explains that Nickelback recorded a couple of "rough takes" of the song in the studio a few years back. When Charlie Daniels passed, Chad Kroeger thought there was no better way to remember this "music icon" than putting Nickelback's own spin on this classic hit.
It's no surprise that social media has been expressing mixed feelings about Nickelback's take on "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" and the band in general.
I'm curious...what do you think about Nickelback's remake of one of the biggest songs in country music?
