Teen Catches Trophy Pike Through Lake Thompson Ice

14 year-old Tim Kreun had expected to land a few crappies when he drilled an 8" hole through the ice on Lake Thompson. He certainly didn't expect make news among the ice fishing circles when a monster pike hit his jig.

Kreun tells the Argus Leader that his bobber "shot straight down" taking his rod and reel down with it. Amazingly, the northern pike's tail snagged his other jig a few feet away.

The 20 minute fight in the shallow waters of Schaefer’s Slough produced an incredible 41" norther pike that weighed in at 23 lbs.

It's the biggest fish Kreun, a Pipestone, Mn. teen has ever caught and plans to bring it to a taxidermist and have it mounted.
