Surprising Minnesota Suburb Has 2nd Highest Murder Rate
The state of Minnesota has consistently ranked as one of the safest states in the U.S. for a few decades now. However, as with any state, some places are more dangerous than others.
It will probably come as no surprise that Minneapolis has the highest murder per capita rate in the North Star State. But one small Twin Cities suburb isn't far behind, coming in at number two.
Roadsnacks recently listed the top ten cities with the highest murder per capita rate in the entire state, and a small Minneapolis suburb takes the number two spot.
The small suburb of Medina (population 6,800) has the second-highest murder per capita rate in the Land of Ten Thousand Lakes.
Here's how Roadsnacks came up with the results:
Specifically, we analyzed the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report, which summarizes the number of murders in each city annually.
We only looked at every single city in Minnesota for which FBI data was available for the most recent FBI Crime In The United States. That left us with 28 cities to rank.
We took the number of murders per capita as the ranking factor. The place with the most murders per capita based on the most recent data is Minneapolis. It is our tenth time ranking the places with the most murders per capita in Minnesota. We updated the list for 2024.

Now, while this is technically accurate, it's a bit far-fetched, as Median only had one murder in the past year.
