Spearfish to Conduct Study on Current, Future Housing Needs

SPEARFISH, S.D. (AP) — Officials in Spearfish have approved a study that will look at the current and future housing needs of the city in western South Dakota.

The Black Hills Pioneer reports that the firm Community Partners Research based in Faribault, Minnesota, will be responsible for the study that officials hope will provide them with a better sense of the city's housing market.

City administrator Joe Neeb says city officials want to make sure that the community's housing needs are being met.

The study is expected to provide an inventory of existing housing and identify rehab and preservation needs.

Neeb says the study follows a state initiative that provided cost-sharing incentives to rural communities to examine affordable housing options and workforce development.

The city will pay almost $13,000 for the study.
