South Dakota Deer Population Not Growing Fast Enough
South Dakota is an outdoor paradise. Whether its fishing, camping, hunting, hiking or any other outdoor activity, you'll find it happening here in the Rushmore state.
Now comes word that our deer population, while not diminishing, isn't growing fast enough. According to a report in the Pierre Capital Journal, fewer fawns are surviving into adulthood. So what does that mean?
Well, apparently there may be fewer deer hunting licenses and tags for the next couple years.
But wait, why are fewer fawns surviving?
Well, according to the report something called 'Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease' has hit the deer population particularly hard.
Now, I'm not a hunter myself, but having lived in South Dakota over 40 years, I have lots of friends who are. So I'll pas this news along to them, and I hope you will, too. And we'll keep an eye out for any updates along the way.
