Reba McEntire Among 2018 Kennedy Center Honors Recipients
Congratulations are in order for Reba McEntire: The country icon has been announced as one of 2018's Kennedy Center Honors recipients.
As reported by MusicRow, McEntire joins Cher, Philip Glass, Wayne Shorter, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Thomas Kail, Andy Blankenbuehler and Alex Lacamoire in the list of 2018 Kennedy Center Honors honorees. In order to be selected, Kennedy Center Honors recipients must be innovators in their respective fields, helping to define the arts.
“The Kennedy Center Honors recognizes exceptional artists who have made enduring and indelible marks on our culture,” says David M. Rubenstein, chairman of the Kennedy Center. Adds Kennedy Center President Deborah F. Rutter, "The world looks to America for its creative instincts and artistic courage. This year’s slate of honorees represents the pinnacle of our nation’s originality and the rich mosaic of diverse perspectives and art forms that has come to define who we are as a people."
This isn't the first time that a country star has been conferred a Kennedy Center Honors recognition. Past country music recipients include Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson, among others.
The 2018 Kennedy Center Honors ceremony will take place on Dec. 2. Thankfully for McEntire fans, the ceremony will be aired on CBS on Dec. 26 at 8PM ET. More information about the Kennedy Center Honors can be found on the Kennedy Center's official website.
