As a kid growing up by Leota, Minnesota our daily paper was the Worthington Daily Globe.  More than anything else, I remember every day...yes it seemed like everyday...there would be news about the war in Viet Nam.  And, at least in my memory, it was never good.

Those Viet Nam war years were filled with controversy.  Draft dodging and draft card burning.  Unrest and arrest on college campuses.  Marches and sit-downs.  Tear gas and death.

Whether or not the war in Viet Nam was 'worth it', whether or not it was 'justified'...that will be debated for years to come.  Books have been written, historians have weighed in, minds and hearts and have been changed and unchanged.

But for those of us old enough to remember, January 23, 1973 was an important day.  The president of the United States, Richard Nixon, told us it was over.
