Shortly before 8:00 PM Thursday night, a Sioux Falls Police Officer was preparing to make a turn onto Minnesota Avenue from 26th Street.

As the officer began to make the turn, a red 2004 Chevrolet Venture van was traveling north on Minnesota Avenue. The van ran the red light nearly colliding with the police vehicle which was in the intersection.

The officer attempted to stop the van, but the van began to take evasive turns in an attempt to elude the officer.

Soon after, other officers in the area observed the vehicle driving through residential neighborhoods at excessive rates of speed and running stop signs.

At one point, the suspect vehicle drove head on towards another officer. That officer perceived that the suspect vehicle was trying to ram the police vehicle.

Given the information provided by the officers, a pursuit was authorized by a supervisor. The pursuit began in the area of 12th and Kiwanis and continued west to I-29. The vehicle continued south from Baltic on county gravel roads. The van veered off the road, striking an embankment and tree causing the van to roll.

Two occupants of the van were transported to an area hospital where they were treated for non-life threatening injuries. Both of the occupants of the van were arrested. Officers witnessed both occupants of the vehicle driving the van at different points during this call.

Arrested were 41 year-old Larry Sharpfish from Sisseton and 36-year-old Jolene Bisonette frorm Frandreau. Sharpfish was charged with Aggravated Eluding and DUI. Bisonetee was charged with DUI and outstanding warrants.
