PIERRE, S.D. (AP) — Pierre is continuing its search for a new fire chief.

KCCR radio reports that a search committee still has not made a final recommendation on a replacement for Bill Alexander, who retired at the end of October.

Three finalists for the position interviewed earlier this month. Two were from the Pierre-Fort Pierre area and the other was from Iowa.

City Administrator Leon Schochenmaier says a background check, which is part of such a search, is being done on the committee's first choice. He says it is unknown when the check will be completed or when a new chief will be named.

The search committee will eventually make a recommendation to the city commission, which will have final approval.
