DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) — The parents of a 3-year-old Dubuque boy who shot himself in the face have pleaded guilty in federal court.

Twenty-five-year-old Raven Harris and 29-year-old Willie Horsley Sr. each were charged with being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. A sentencing date hasn't been set for either of them.

Police say the little boy, Jeremiah Horsley, was playing with the .45-caliber handgun Jan. 3 when it went off. He was flown to an Iowa City hospital for treatment.

His parents have pleaded not guilty to state charges of child endangerment and other crimes connected to the accidental shooting. Harris' trial is scheduled to begin June 28; Horsley's trial is set to begin Aug. 22.
