PIERRE - South Dakota Gov. Dennis Daugaard is urging drivers to share the road safely with motorcycles.

Daugaard says South Dakota is one of the four safest states in the nation for riding motorcycles. He says all drivers need to be aware of motorcycles on the highways.

The governor has designated May as Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month in South Dakota.

The National Highway Safety Administration urges motorcycle riders to wear helmets, always use turn signals, wear brightly colored protective gear, position themselves in the lane where they are most visible to other drivers, and never ride while impaired.

South Dakota is famous for the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, which draws hundreds of thousands of bikers to the Black Hills.
