NBA Center Jason Collins: ‘I’m Gay’ – Are You Ready For a Gay Athlete in Pro Sports? [POLL]
For the first time in the history of professional sports in the United States, an active member of a team has come out as gay.
Veteran NBA Center Jason Collins, in an article he wrote for Sports Illustrated says:
I didn’t set out to be the first openly gay athlete playing in a major American team sport.
But since I am, I’m happy to start the conversation.
Collins is a 12-year NBA veteran, who split time last season between the Boston Celtics and Washington Wizards. He played college ball at Stanford.
At the end of the regular season, Collins became a free agent.
