This is a day to say "thank you" to the men and women who are risking their lives each day to protect and serve cities they love.

According to the National Law Enforcement Officers, there are more than 900,000 sworn law enforcement officers in the United States. 12% of these officers are female. The oath each officer proclaims is the following:

"On my honor, I will never betray my badge, my integrity, my character or the public trust. I will always have the courage to hold myself and others accountable for our actions. I will always uphold the constitution, my community, and the agency I serve."

This is an officer's promise to society.  The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) states, "The Oath of Honor provides the law enforcement profession with a concise, powerful and universal process by which officers can affirm and periodically reaffirm their ethical values and beliefs."

Police officers across our great nation have dedicated their lives to watching over our cities and citizens.  It's not always easy going on the streets because it could be extremely dangerous.  Getting a parking or traffic ticket is not always fun but think of this ticket as an "easy" part of an officer's day.

If you see the men and women in blue, be sure to give them a smile and acknowledge them for their service.  Heck, it's totally acceptable to buy them coffee and donuts!
