The five newest members of the NASCAR Hall of Fame have been announced. They will be inducted in January.

One of them is Robert Yates, who won NASCAR Cup championships as both an engine builder and as an owner.

The first championship as an owner was in 1999 with Dale Jarrett. Before that, a notable title as an engine builder, was in 1983 with Bobby Allison.

Another one of the new members is Ray Evernham, one of the sports greatest innovators as a crew chief. He won three championships with Jeff Gordon in four years as one of his many career highlights.

Drivers going in include Red Byron, NASCAR's first champion. I wonder why it took so long to get him in there? Also Ron Hornaday Jr., who is the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series record holder for victories and championships.

The fifth member is a guy that brought the NASCAR racing to the fans as a broadcaster, Ken Squier. He was the first announcer to give lap-by-lap commentary for the Daytona 500 in 1979. He coined the term "The Great American Race" for the Daytona 500.
