The holidays are truly about spending time with family and catching up with friends you haven't seen in a while.  This sentiment is definitely more obvious to me now that I am an adult.

When my sister and I were younger, my parents always took us to have "Breakfast With Santa."  Every year, we would be dressed in matching outfits.  The only difference was our hairstyles.  In this picture with Santa, I am actually wearing one of my favorite "Santa Breakfast" outfits.  I loved that pink skirt!  Don't ask me what I was doing with my hair back then (haha).

Since my family's home is just a few blocks away from the Brookfield Zoo, seeing the Christmas lights at the zoo was also one of our favorite holiday traditions!  It was a perfect excuse to visit the animals and for my dad to take as many pictures as he could. The lion statue was (and still is) the "primetime spot" to take a holiday photo!  When Katie and I were in high school, we started attending the holiday festivities at Brookfield Zoo with all our friends.  We really got in the Christmas spirit walking around the zoo at night and looking at all of the holiday decorations!

Christmas shopping was fun too because we would always stumble upon great deals, especially on the eve of Christmas Eve!  Since malls in our area close as late as midnight and anchor stores close even later, we would shop till we drop!  One of our favorite department stores is "Lord & Taylor," which is where Katie and I found our Santa onesies!  It had been years since my sister and I dressed in the same outfits.  We thought it would be a nice surprise for our family, and we were right!  The onesies were a big hit!

Now that I am over 500 miles away from home, I appreciate the little things when I am home.  I always make time for family, and I try to visit as many friends as possible. It's a balancing act, but it's worth it after seeing everyone's smiling faces!  I am sure my next visit home will be just wonderful!

What's are some of your holiday traditions or memories?
