Miguel Sano is on Pace to Set a New Major League Baseball Record
We've all been amazed by Miguel Sano at least at some point, but he is on pace to set a record that wouldn't be considered all that great.
Let's be honest, there's a lot of people around here watching the Twins to see Miguel Sano blast home runs. He's done that so far with 25 home runs this season.
But "swinging for the fences" has also caused Sano to be on the path to a record. The Major League Baseball strikeout record. After yesterday's game against San Diego, Sano has struck out 145 times this season in 105 games. That puts him on pace to potentially break the MLB record in strikeouts in one season according to Ted Schwerzler of TwinsDaily.
Mark Reynolds set the 223 strikeout record in 2009 as a member of the Arizona Diamondbacks. He also finished the 2009 season with 44 home runs and 102 RBIs.
Granted, the strikeout category doesn't mean nearly as much as it use to. ESPN reported back in 2013 that strikeouts were on the rise. It was even more-so confirmed this year by Call To The Pen, who also says that the record has been broken for 11-straight years.
So if Sano was to get the "honor" of striking out more than any other player in one season, the bright side is that the record itself probably won't last very long.
Heck, it might even be the following season where he breaks his own. Consider it a badge of honor.
