The Lake County Sheriff's Office has confirmed the recovery of a body after a drowning accident.

On Sunday July 3, 2016 at 6:00 PM, authorities received a call of a possible drowning on Lake Madison near Peninsula Point on the south central portion of the lake.

Officials were told five boats had been tied up together and one person jumped into the water to cool off and did not return to the surface of the lake, which was believed to be approximately 6 feet deep in that area.. He wasn't wearing a life jacket and not a good swimmer.

At 8:30 p.m., authorities recovered body of a 22-year-old man.

The incident is still under investigation and names are being held until notification of family is made.

Lake County Sheriff Tim Walburg suggests safety measures for everyone on the lake:

We would like to remind people that are on the area lakes to make sure they are wearing life jackets whether they are in the boat or swimming in the water. Also make sure that you know the area you are going to swim, or dive into the water.
