Man Charged in Sioux Falls After Accidental Gunshot
A Mitchell man who was visiting in Sioux Falls probably learned a lesson Tuesday afternoon about safety in cleaning a gun.
Captain Greg VandeKamp says police were called around 2:20 PM to a report of a gunshot in an apartment in the 700 block of South Summit Avenue. He says they found a man with a .45-caliber handgun that had discharged.
VandeKamp says the man had been cleaning the gun and it went off, putting a round into the ceiling of the apartment the man was visiting. But since the building has concrete floors between apartments, the round stayed in the apartment.
VandeKamp says 24-year-old Lane Langle of Mitchell was charged with reckless discharge of a firearm. He says at first, Langle told police he had dropped the magazine from the gun, but he said later he had been cleaning it when it discharged.
No one was injured.
