Luke Combs Invited to Join the Grand Ole Opry [WATCH]
Luke Combs has been invited to join the Grand Ole Opry. Craig Morgan, Chris Janson and John Conlee surprised Combs with his invite on Tuesday night (June 11), during his Opry performance.
Readers can press play above to watch Conlee, Janson and Morgan extend an invitation to join the Grand Ole Opry to Combs, who was the night's final performer. Janson and Morgan delivered the question in unison: "How would you like to be the next member of the Grand Ole Opry?"
The crowd screams in approval as Combs dropped his hands to his knees in disbelief and started crying. Morgan, then Janson, then Conlee enveloped him in hugs as the crowd continued to cheer. The three left a speechless, emotional Combs onstage to process the news -- and finish his set.
“Holy cow! Are you serious?" Combs said. "‘Cause if you’re not serious, that’s really mean.”
Combs' Opry induction will take place later in 2019, a press release reports. He'll be the newest member to join the hallowed country music institution since Kelsea Ballerini became a member in mid-April.
“Since making his Opry debut a little less than three years ago, Luke has become a favorite of fans and fellow artists here at the Opry while simultaneously becoming a chart-topping bona fide country music superstar. We’ve loved every minute of his Opry visits and are thrilled to invite him to become an official part of the Opry family,” says Opry general manager Sally Williams. "Luke’s heart is filled with love and genuine appreciation for the Opry, and we are excited this will be his musical home throughout what will no doubt be a long and rewarding career full of great music.”
His Grand Ole Opry invitation is the latest in Combs' fast-rising career. Still riding the wave of his acclaimed debut album, 2017's This One's for You, Combs recently released a new EP, The Prequel, and a quickly climbing single, "Beer Never Broke My Heart." All of his five previous singles hit No. 1. Combs is also the reigning ACM New Male Artist of the Year and CMA New Artist of the Year.
