Look at Us Grow: New Sioux Falls Population Tally
If you live in Sioux Falls, you're now among an estimated 178,500 residents within the city limits.
At a press conference on Tuesday January 24, details revealed another record year of growth, with 5,200 being added to the tally, a growth rate of three percent, compared to 2.1 percent the previous year.
City officials say strong job growth, record construction and the positive quality of life is a magnet for others to call Sioux Falls their home.
Jeffrey Schmitt, Chief Planning and Zoning for the city of Sioux Falls comments on the growth:
We continue to see people move into Sioux Falls for employment opportunities, the cultural activities that they’ve heard so much about, lower cost of living, and to be close to friends and family. Citizens moving here created the demand in 2016 for a record number of residential units being permitted, while vacancy rates remain low. The population and housing numbers we are experiencing are also reflected in the workforce. Between December 2015 and December 2016, 6,000 new jobs were created within the Sioux Falls MSA.
By the year 2025, 202,000 people are expected to call Sioux Falls home. That number does not reflect the surrounding communities which interact daily with Sioux Falls with work, school, shopping and entertainment.
