Jimmie Johnson Wins NASCAR Race at Bristol Motor Speedway
Jimmie Johnson won the rain delayed NASCAR race at Bristol Motor Speedway Monday afternoon. The race was scheduled to run Sunday but the rain came down pushing it to Monday.
Johnson scoring a second straight victory. He won the previous event at Texas. At Bristol he led 81 of the 500 laps of the Food City 500.
The top four drivers did some passing. Johnson came from 11th to the win, 1.1 seconds ahead of Clint Bowyer, who started ninth.
Kevin Harvick powered from tenth to third and Matt Kenseth surged from 22nd to fourth. Joey Logano rounded out the top five.
Front row starters Kyle Larson and Chase Elliott came in sixth and seventh respectively. Larson led the first 202 laps winning stage one, but a pit road penalty pushed him back.
My thoughts were on Kyle Busch. I mean this guy has won Bristol five times and it seems to his best track in my book. But two separate hits to the wall were just too much. The second one took him to the sidelines.
Dale Jr. also cracked the wall in turn one just under the half way point of the race. He suffered a broken oil cooler and his day was over.
Brad Keselowski and Ryan Blaney had problems with steering issues. Take a look at where your driver finished.
Next up, Sunday at Richmond International Raceway.
