FORT SISSETON, S.D. (AP) - A plaque honoring former Gov. Bill Janklow will be dedicated next month during the Fort Sisseton Historical Festival.

Fort Sisseton Commissioner Paul Symens says Janklow's efforts to secure funding for early restoration efforts at Fort Sisseton, along with local support from state Sen. Curt Jones, made restoration of the state park possible.

Janklow, who died in January 2012, served as governor from 1979 to 1987 and from 1995 to 2003. His plaque will be on display next to one honoring Jones.

A ceremony is planned for 3 p.m. CDT on Saturday, June 8.

The festival runs June 7-9 at the state park located southwest of Lake City.
