The Truth About Delta Paying Thousands of Dollars to Minnesotans
It is true that Delta Airlines is set to pay thousands of dollars to certain residents of Minnesota. Here's why they're opening up their checkbook.
Normally, you and I shell out money to airlines and they transport us to faraway places for work or pleasure, right? It's not too often that an airline ends up paying YOU, and they certainly don't pay you thousands of dollars very often, either. So what's going on here?

Well, it's all the result of a recent class-action lawsuit that Delta Airlines just settled. And, yes, they're paying what could be thousands of dollars to select Minnesotans. According to this CNN Business story, Delta just agreed to some very expensive terms to settle a class-action lawsuit from customers who said the airline wouldn’t refund their money for flights that were canceled at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The story went on to say that while not admitting to wrongdoing or breach of contract, Delta will be ponying up $27 million dollars to settle the lawsuit, along with paying 7 percent interest in cash or credits on top of the refund, and will cover attorney fees, as well.
A release from Tycko & Zavareei, LLP, the law firm that brought the class-action suit, said that settlement will go to more than 14,000 individuals, including some here in Minnesota, who were affected by flights that were booked between March 1, 2020, and April 20, 2021, but were then canceled.

The lawsuit, which Tycko & Zavareei says was first filed back in 2020, alleged that Delta engaged in 'unfair and deceptive conduct' by refusing to provide cash refunds for those canceled flights, opting instead to issue future flight credits.
The average refund for each customer involved in the class-action suit varies, but many could be worth thousands of dollars, the release said. As an example, it noted that a teacher in California who paid $2,400 for nine student flights that ended up being canceled is among those included in the settlement.
