Weekend Burglaries in Minnesota Prompt Reminder from Police
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Rochester Police Department is warning the community to be mindful of unlocked doors.
The reminder follows a pair of burglaries reported in Rochester over the weekend. One of the burglaries happened Saturday morning and the other occurred overnight Saturday.
Rochester Police Captain Casey Moilanen said the first burglary is believed to have happened sometime between 5:00 and 5:30 Saturday morning. A resident in the 1000 block of 6th Ave. Southeast told officers he saw the side door of his garage was open.
When he went into his garage he saw someone had ransacked his vehicle and reported a flashlight and mace were stolen from his vehicle.
A neighbor in the area told police they had caught someone walking through the neighborhood trying to open cars parked in the area around 5 a.m. Saturday.
The garage’s side door was believed to have been unlocked at the time of the suspected burglary.
On Sunday morning, police responded to a home in the 700 block of Elton Hills Dr. Northwest. The homeowner told officers he had left the overhead door of his detached garage open overnight and discovered $1,800 worth of tools stolen.
The man also reported items he had in his vehicle were missing.
No arrests have been made in either burglary. Moilanen reminded residents to ensure that all doors are closed and locked before going to bed.
