It was just another Summer day at Target Field (other than the MLB debut of top Twins pitching prospect Zebby Matthews). The Twins were actually pounding the division rival Kansas City Royals and the weather was fine.

Then the left field wall opened up for the Mascot Race.

Watch the Most Epic Finish to the Target Field Mascot Race

WUUUHHHH?!?!?!

After the turn, it was a three-way battle for first between Babe the Blue Ox, Skeeta the Mosquito, and Bullseye the Dog. Bullseye made a bold move to split between Babe and Skeeta. Their giant heads collided, and the three trainwrecked.

Louie the Loon tried to traverse the mangled mascot minefield, but failed to take flight above the wreckage and joined it instead.

Wanda the Walleye - previously content with a last-place-but-unharmed finish - found an open lane and took the victory!

T.C. Bear was there to make sure everyone was okay. Perhaps a skinned knee and bruised egos, but the mascots rose like failed phoenixes from the limestone-seasoned ashes of Target Field.
