If you've got a Kenmore or Frigidaire electric stove you might want to double-check on some things, as Electrolux, the manufacturer behind these brands is recalling some ranges as they can spontaneously turn on. Here's what you need to know.

Fox 9 in the Twin Cities shared the recall story over the weekend, and I gave me pause as we own a Kenmore stove, but luckily it wasn't from on the years being recalled.

According to Fox 9 the ranges being recalled "were sold at Sears and independent appliance stores nationwide from June 2001 through August 2009 for between $1,000 and $2,500. Contact Electrolux or register online to participate in the recall. Based on the serial number, it will be determined if consumers have a range that can be repaired or not."

The Consumer Protection and Safety Commission website states that the electric ranges can do one of three things that are a danger to the public.

Depending on the model, the surface heating elements can:

1) turn on spontaneously without being switched on;

2) fail to turn off after being switched off; or,

3) heat to different temperatures than selected. This poses a fire and burn hazard to consumers.

For those that own one of these ranges, the solution isn't a great one. The Consumer Protection and Safety Commission recommends that you "stop using the recalled ranges immediately and discard them. The remedy is no longer available."

Here's the Electrolux information you'll need to report your range:
