According to a report by World Population Review, South Dakota ranks 7th of all states with the highest suicide rate (20.9 per 100,000).
Iowa ranks 21, and Minnesota at 33. The highest suicide rate is found in Wyoming with 29.3 per 100,000 people.

In July the number 988 became the national three-digit phone number for all mental health, substance use, and suicide crises. In South Dakota calls are routed to The Helpline Center, South Dakota’s only 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline center.
The warning signs of suicide can many times be confusing. Being aware of the signs is important not only to yourself but those around you.
One of the first, and most important steps you can take to find out if someone is in crisis is to just ask.
