Sometimes you just can't avoid it. Especially this time of the year with road construction and traffic jams on just about every highway and byway we travel.

It's road rage.

And if you haven't been guilty yourself (liar, liar, pants on fire!), you have certainly seen it on display when you're out driving around.

The folks at Consumer Affairs have been paying attention as to exactly where there are hotbeds of hotheads behind the wheel.

They're out with their annual report on the state of road rage in America.

Let's zero in on the Tri-State area where there is very good news for drivers in one state.

When you factor in things like: traffic incidents involving gun violence, violations for aggressive or careless driving or speeding, and fatal crashes involving aggressive or careless driving, Iowa is a beacon of calm on the roads.

Drivers in the Hawkeye State have the second lowest road rage score in the country, behind only mild mannered Maine.

LOOK: See how much gasoline cost the year you started driving

To find out more about how has the price of gas changed throughout the years, Stacker ran the numbers on the cost of a gallon of gasoline for each of the last 84 years. Using data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (released in April 2020), we analyzed the average price for a gallon of unleaded regular gasoline from 1976 to 2020 along with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for unleaded regular gasoline from 1937 to 1976, including the absolute and inflation-adjusted prices for each year.

Read on to explore the cost of gas over time and rediscover just how much a gallon was when you first started driving.
