Seeing local South Dakota, Iowa, and Minnesota businesses close their doors is heartbreaking. Now you can add a popular Downtown Sioux Falls shop to this growing list.

Formerly known as Chelsea's Boutique, the shop Heritage Boutique on Phillips Avenue is officially closing. Seeing small businesses close is always sad, but this one shocks me. I loved shopping at Heritage Boutique.

Owner Emma Schulz took over the storefront from founder Chelsea Giedd in 2023. Since this journey started for Emma as CEO & Visionary, she has embraced every moment and challenge at Heritage Boutique. She really made the shop her own. So why is Heritage Boutique shutting down?

In an emotional post on Instagram, Emma Schulz explains the current economic situation and foot traffic in general throughout Sioux Falls has changed significantly since taking over the storefront. You can tell this wasn't an easy decision for Emma.

When I first started out, downtown was the spot to be and shopping local really resonated amongst the community.. I could never have anticipated the change in foot traffic and downtown in general that I’ve seen in 2024. I know the economy plays a huge part and unfortunately it’s much bigger than I am. So much so, that hanging on through this period is impossible. It’s with a heavy heart I’m going out of business.

That being said, the time frame in which everything is falling is somewhat fitting. To a new year and to new beginnings. I want to thank the ones who supported me and my business.

Heritage Boutique will remain open until this Sunday, January 19th. This is a perfect example of why shopping locally is so critical in Sioux Falls. Being a business owner is tough enough, showing support is the best thing anyone can do.

I will miss Heritage Boutique so much!

Sioux Falls Through The Generations

On social media, we asked you all: ‘It’s 1989, where is your family going out to eat?’ Here’s what you said.
