The Grapevine, Texas-based company has experienced a steady decline in sales over the past decade as more gamers make purchases online rather than in-store. That downturn led to Sioux Falls losing a pair of stores in 2025 (Arrowhead Parkway, Empire Mall).

That leaves South Dakota's largest city with one GameStop location, on West 34th Street. There is good news for that location; it is not on the list of 471 stores on the most recent closing list.

The company was founded in Dallas in 1984 as Babbage's and took on its current name in 1999.
