End of an Era: Argus Leader Leaving Downtown Sioux Falls
After nearly seven decades at the same downtown Sioux Falls location, the Argus Leader newsroom is vacating its longtime home.
Friday (November 3) afternoon, News Director Shelly Conlon made the announcement on the newspaper's website.
Sometime next week, the newsroom staff will relocate to a new location on North Western Avenue.
The move comes two years after the paper's printing press plant closed. Since then, physical copies of the publication have come from Des Moines.
In August of 2022, the building at the corner of Minnesota Avenue and 10th Street was sold, but the newsroom staff was able to maintain an on-site office.
The paper actually pre-dates the state of South Dakota by eight years. It started as the weekly Argus in 1881, before merging with the Sioux Falls Leader in 1887.
After a 1951 fire drove the paper out of its location on North Main Avenue in downtown Sioux Falls, the Argus Leader moved into its current location in February of 1954.
