Doughnut Lovers Rejoice! Krispy Kreme Returning to Minnesota
After being dark for the past 16 years, the 'Hot Light' is about to shine again in Minnesota!
Plans are underway to bring Krispy Kreme doughnuts back to the North Star State in 2025.
The Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal says the popular national chain, with more than 1,400 locations worldwide, is seeking construction bids for a store in the Twin Cities suburb of Fridley. It would replace a former CVS at the intersection of I-694 and University Avenue Southeast.
The report says a building permit for an interior and exterior remodel was submitted to the city in late September and will likely be approved by the end of this month.
Construction is slated to begin before the end of the year.
Fridley officials say the location will offer retail, a dine-in area, a drive-thru, and (most importantly for Krispy Kreme fans) an on-site 'doughnut factory', complete with a 'Hot Light' that indicates when fresh doughnuts are being made.
The last Krispy Kreme locations in Minnesota closed in 2008.
Fans of the franchise currently have to travel to neighboring states Iowa (Ankeny, West Des Moines, Council Bluffs) and Wisconsin (West Allis) to get their Krispy Kreme fix.
